The Importance of Counselling

If you’re going through a tough time, carrying on your daily life can be difficult and exhausting, and although it’s great to talk things over with friends or family, sometimes you need a safe, confidential and unbiased space to unpack what’s going on. As a therapist, I work with you, a unique individual, in your unique circumstances, to help you make sense of what’s been happening for you, help you understand why you’re feeling that way, or why you’re responding to a particular problem in a certain way that might not be actually helping you. Together, we can identify what can help you manage any challenges in your life.

A lot of the time we walk through our lives kind of blindfolded, unaware that we might have other options, to be another way, to make other choices. We find ourselves in the same patterns or making the same mistakes no matter how much we try to avoid them. Therapy can help you see more choices for yourself, and become more confident about having the power and the right to choose differently, if you want.

I provide a compassionate, safe, honest and expert process of helping you see more choices for yourself, and become more confident about having the power and the right to choose differently, if you want. The potential is entirely inside you. You are the expert in your own life, and you really do have the ability to become who you want to be. You just need the support to find the key to unlock your deeper knowing, and your potential, and then explore that, without conditions.

There’s time to explore different options, to try something that might help, and then try something else, without pressure to get it right, and without penalties if it doesn’t turn out the way you expected or wanted.

Therapy really helps you accept yourself, and with that acceptance comes the confidence to become who you want to be.

I’m not going to fix you; you’re going to do it yourself, in whatever way you choose, or want, through the process of therapy.

The most basic starting point is to feel comfortable with your therapist, and because you will not know that until you spend some time with me, the first session is dedicated to ensuring that we can work together and that you can decide whether or not to schedule a second appointment. There is no obligation to continue; there is no upfront fee, and you are never locked in.

In everyone’s life we make mistakes, but therapy helps us see we don’t need to make them a million times worse by layering on the weight of our self-hating reactions and stresses that then affect the whole of our lives. We can develop ways of thinking and feeling more consciously and calmly about challenging situations, and becoming able to manage them more easily. This is an incredibly rewarding journey, for both client and therapist.

Therapy helps you thrive, by improving how you feel, so you’re less overwhelmed by emotions or events, and you can consistently feel better.

I have been drawn to help and support others because of personal struggles. I believe it is critical to actively listen to each and every person who wishes to begin therapy, while maintaining a non-judgemental attitude and unconditional positive regard for them. My main goal is to create a safe and secure environment in which empathy and warmth contribute to the creation of a helpful space in order to increase positive outcomes. You are welcome to share any fears or worries you are currently experiencing in this space at your own pace and without judgement.

I am professionally accredited with the IACP, the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, through my therapeutic training and experience with:

  • Completing a Master’s Degree in Pluralistic Counselling and Psychotherapy, IICP
  • BA Honours Degree in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy, IICP
  • Certificate in Counselling
  • Diploma in Trauma-informed Psychotherapy
